Complex Trauma and Relationship Therapist

Josh Davis, LMHC

You've tried to figure out why the same patterns keep showing up. In your relationships, in how you feel about yourself, in the quiet moments when you're alone and something just feels… off.

Maybe you've been in therapy before and it helped, a little. But something still feels stuck. The anxiety, the people-pleasing, the way you shut down or spiral, it's all still there.

You don't need someone to tell you to "think more positively." You need someone who can actually help you understand what's underneath it all.

That's what I do.

I'm Josh Davis, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) offering online therapy to Vermont residents. I specialize in complex trauma, relational patterns, and therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples. My work is grounded in NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model), a body-centered, trauma-informed approach that goes deeper than symptom management.

I offer virtual sessions that work with your schedule, from the privacy and comfort of wherever you are in Vermont.

Who I Work With

I work with adults in Vermont who are dealing with:

  • Complex or relational trauma (childhood wounds, emotional neglect, past abusive relationships, or feeling like you never quite fit)

  • Anxiety, shame, and a harsh inner critic that won't quit

  • Relationship struggles (patterns of disconnection, fear of abandonment, or difficulty trusting)

  • People-pleasing, perfectionism, and the exhaustion of performing for everyone around you

  • LGBTQ+ identity, including navigating shame, religious trauma, or coming out at any stage of life

  • Couples and partners work (communication breakdown, emotional distance, or repeating cycles that feel impossible to break)

  • Gay and queer relationships (with a therapist who actually gets it)

  • Non-traditional relationships including open, polyamorous, or kink-affirming dynamics

My Approach to Therapy

My work is rooted in NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model), a complex trauma-informed, body-centered approach that doesn't ask you to relive painful memories or "fix" yourself.

Instead, we look at what's happening right now (in your body, your emotions, your relationships) and bring curiosity, not judgment, to the patterns that keep showing up. We work to understand where they came from, what they're protecting, and how to begin shifting them from the inside out.

Therapy with me is relational, present, and human. I'm not the kind of therapist who just nods and reflects back what you said. I'm engaged, direct, and genuinely invested in the work we do together. Sessions can be heavy, but they can also be funny, messy, and real, because that's what actual being human looks like.

About Me

Hey, I'm Josh!

I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) licensed in Vermont, Florida, and Delaware. I specialize in complex and relational trauma, relationships, and therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples.

My work is grounded in NARM, a complex trauma-informed approach that helps people reconnect with who they actually are, beneath the coping strategies, shame, and self-doubt that built up over time.

As a gay man, I bring both lived experience and clinical expertise to working with clients. You don't have to filter yourself, explain your identity, or worry about being judged. This is a space where you can show up fully.
