Coaching is for individuals who want to improve specific aspects of their lives. Unlike psychotherapy, coaching is intended for people who do not meet the criteria for a mental health diagnosis and do not require medically necessary treatment. In psychotherapy, a diagnosis is typically provided, and the person is dealing with an issue that negatively impacts their daily functioning. Coaching, on the other hand, is goal-oriented, with the coach providing strategies and skills to help you achieve your goals. Since coaching is not medically necessary and is not considered therapy, insurance companies do not reimburse for it, and a coach can work with clients across state lines.
